PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung congratulated Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on the victory of his ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) in the July 28 general election.
"I would like to convey my warm congratulations to you on the victory of the brotherly Cambodian People's Party in the fifth National Assembly election," he said in a message to Hun Sen late Friday.
"I am firmly confident that with the outcome of this election, the National Assembly and the Royal Government of Cambodia will be formed very soon for the sake of stability, national development and interest of the Cambodian people," he said.
Dung said that he looked forward to working closely with Hun Sen to further strengthen and expand the long-standing relation of good neighborliness and cooperation in all fields.
Besides Vietnamese Prime Minister, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, and Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong have also congratulated Hun Sen on his party's victory.
The CPP won 68 parliamentary seats and the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) led by Sam Rainsy got the remaining 55 seats, according to the initial results.
However, the CNRP rejected the results due to serious irregularities and called for independent investigation.
Tep Nytha, Secretary General of the National Election Committee (NEC), said Saturday that a joint committee comprising the NEC, the CPP and CNRP would be formed soon in order to investigate the alleged irregularities.
He said all national and international observers would be allowed to monitor the investigation process.
"This is a positive way to solve the remaining issues and find a solution acceptable to all sides," Hun Sen said.
Hun Sen, who has been in power for 28 years, will extend his rule by another five years due to the poll victory.
