PHNOM PENH, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has the population of 14.68
million as of 2013, a 9 percent rise from 13.4 million in 2008,
according to the intercensal population survey released on Thursday.
The survey, conducted by the Planning Ministry's National Institute of Statistics in March, showed that 7.12 million of the population are males and 7.56 million are females.
It said urban population constitutes 21.44 percent of the total population, up from 19.51 percent five years ago.
Speaking at the launch of the survey report, Minister of Planning Chhay Than said the survey was a follow-up of the population census in 2008.
"It provides up-to-date information on the population size and growth, fertility level, mortality level, and volume of migration, " he said. "It is vital for the preparation of strategic plans for social and economic development."
