Cambodia's rubber export up 32 pct in first half of 2013

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has seen a 32 percent rise in dry rubber exports in the first six months of the year, according to the figures of the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.
During the January-June period this year, the country has exported 29,800 tons of dry rubber, up 32 percent from 22,620 tons over the same period last year, the figures said.
Revenues from the exports valued at 76.5 million U.S. dollars during the first half of this year, up 4 percent from 73.6 million U.S. dollars year on year.
The best quality rubber latex goes for 2,630.7 U.S. dollars a ton on Tuesday, down 5 percent compared with 2770.9 U.S. dollars a ton at this time last year, according to the International Rubber Price.
Mak Kimhong, president of Cambodian Rubber Association, said Cambodia's rubber has been exported to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and China.
Last year, the country exported 54,530 tons of dry rubber, earning 158 million U.S. dollars.
Currently, the country has about 300,000 hectares of rubber trees, according to the ministry of agriculture. Some 55,000 hectares of them are old enough to be yielded.
