AFC President's Cup Group A matches kick off in Cambodia



   PHNOM PENH, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The Group A competition of the qualifying round of the 2011 Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup kicked off here on Saturday afternoon, marking the first time Cambodia hosted the tournament of AFC President's Cup.
   The Group A comprises Cambodia's Phnom Penh Crown, Kyrgyzstan's Neftchi Kochkor-ATA, Bangladesh's Abahani Limited, and Sri Lanka's Don Bosco.
   The matches will run until on May 25 at the capital’s Olympic Stadium.
   The 2011 AFC President's Cup features three qualification groups (A, B, C) with 12 squads from Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Palestinian Authority, and China's Taiwan.
   The competitions in Group B and Group C have been hosted by Myanmar and Nepal respectively.
   The group winners and the best runners-up will then qualify for the final stage, which will be hosted in another country and played at a later date.
   The final winner will be awarded the AFC President's Cup trophy and 50,000 U.S. dollars, said Khieu Sameth, vice president, Cambodian Football Federation (CFF) on Saturday.
   The AFC President's Cup is an annual international association football competition among leading clubs in Asia. (Nguon Sovan)
