Cambodia, Laos defense chiefs vow to cement military ties

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Laos on Tuesday pledged to strengthen and expand military cooperation to bring peace and security for the peoples of the two countries, especially for those along the border.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tea Banh and visiting Lao's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Douangchay Phichit. "We had agreed to boost cooperation between our two countries' armies in cracking down on all offensive activities in order to build a border of peace and cooperation," Tea Banh told reporters after the meeting. "As both Cambodia and Laos have border issues with Thailand, in the meeting, we had also exchanged experience on how to solve out border issues with neighboring countries," he added.
Later in the day, Douangchay met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Meanwhile, Hun Sen said that as the good neighbors, it's essential for Cambodia and Laos to strengthen cooperation in all fields ranging from defense to trade and investment, culture and sports in order to bring closer relations between the peoples of the two countries.
Douangchay arrived here Tuesday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Tea Banh.
