PHNOM PENH, Nov 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia had exported garment products worth 3.47 billion U.S. dollars in the first ten months of this year, a 33.4 percent increase, compared to the same period last year of 2.6 billion U.S. dollars, showed the statistics from the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
From January to October this year, the exports to the United States was 1.73 billion U.S. dollars, a 16 percent rise from 1.49 billion U.S. dollars at the same period last year, and the exports to European countries rose by 59 percent to 1.03 billion U.S. dollars from 649 million U.S. dollars.
In addition, the exports to Canada, Japan, South Korea and China rose by 56.5 percent to 706 million U.S. dollars from 541 million U.S. dollars.
Garment industry represented more than 90 percent of Cambodia’s total exports. The sector has 291 garment factories employing about 324,800 workers.
Last year, the country had exported a total worth of 2.99 billion U.S. dollars of garment products, up 25.6 percent from 2.38 billion U.S. dollars in a year earlier, according to the reports of the Commerce Ministry.
