77 Cambodia’s anti-graft police sworn in, vowing to root out corruption

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Seventy-seven justice police on Monday afternoon were sworn in at the Court of Appeals to serve at the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in order to boost the unit’s efforts in fighting against corruption.
“The officials are in charge of investigating corruption crimes,” Tith Sothy, Deputy Prosecutor-General at the Court, said after the sworn-in ceremony.
Om Yintieng, the ACU’s chairman, said the new justice police will help the unit in the investigation tasks as, currently, the ACU has only 14 police.
“So far, our efforts in anti-graft investigation are very slow due to the lack of investigators. With them, we’re sure the work will be improved,” he said.
Corruption is rampant in Cambodia. The country made the anti-corruption law and promulgated it on April 17, 2010.
