Cambodia hosts first int’l conference on Cambodia-Sino relations in old eras

 PHNOM PENH, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The first international conference on Cambodia-China relations during Chen-la and Angkorian periods was held here on Wednesday, to promote long standing historical and cultural ties between the two countries that have created since the old ages.
   Khlot Thyda, President of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said the one-day conference was to promote philosophy, cultures and Cambodian and Chinese relations in the two eras.
   “Cambodia and China have a very long time good relation-it had started since the first century and it had been begun to flourish in the 13th century and continue to much better today,” she said. “I hope that the conference will help next generations to learn about good contacts between Cambodia-Sino in the old ages in order to build a very closer and friendlier relation on all sectors.”
   Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue said: “The conference will help to boost more understanding about friendship relations, culture and civilization between the two countries in the old time.”
   The Chen-la period started from the 6th century to 8th century and the Angkorian period lasted from the early ninth century to the early fifteenth century.
   The conference was organized by Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia. The Confucius Institute’s director Chea Monyrithy said the conference was attended by 150 participants from various ministries in Cambodia. Seven historian-speakers including 3 Chinese presented the glorious relations between Cambodia and China during the Chen-la and Angkorian eras.
   Meanwhile, the Confucius Institute also inaugurated the Center for Cambodia’s Historic and Cultural Research.The Center will build a long live relation between Cambodia and China on history, culture,language, and civilization, said Monyrithy.
