Cambodia's garment industry creates 335,400 jobs by 2011

PHNOM PENH, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has 309 garment and textile factories as of last year, employing some 335,400 workers - 91 percent of them are female, according to reports released by the country's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.
It said the sector spent about 408 million U.S. dollars for workers' salaries last year.
Garment and textile industry is the country's largest income maker. Last year, the sector had exported products in equivalent to 4.24 billion U.S. dollars, up 25 percent from a year earlier.
The sector represented up to 85 percent of the country's total exports.
The United States and European countries are the main buyers. The export to the United States was 2.05 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 11 percent; and the export to European countries was 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 42 percent, said the reports.
