Cambodia hosts 1st Sihanoukville Int'l Half Marathon

PHNOM PENH, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Sunday held the first Sihanoukville International Half Marathon, aiming at promoting sports and attracting tourism to coastal areas, said a senior sports official.
Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said that the event was attended by around 1,000 professional and amateur athletes including some 100 foreign runners from 12 countries.
"The event is vital to promote sports and tourism in coastal areas," he said.
The Sunday's contest was presided over by Cambodia's Minister of Tourism Thong Khon.
According to the results released by the NOCC, the men's 21 kilometer race was won by Cambodian Ma Viro in the period of 1 hour, 23 minutes and 37 seconds; another Cambodian athlete Svay Chanthan finished at the second with 1:27:57; and the other Cambodian Kong Thoeun came at third with 1:30:15.
Whilst the women's 21 kilometer running was awarded to French Clementine Tamouide who finished in 1 hour, 43 minutes and 04 seconds; Australia's Pip Miner took the second place in 1:50:31; and British Louta Watson finished at third with 1:51:15.0 Coastal Preah Sihanouk province is situated some 230 kilometers Southwest of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
