ASEAN foreign ministers to visit Myanmar in June

PHNOM PENH, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are going to visit Myanmar in June, Surin Pitsuwan, secretary-general of ASEAN, said here Thursday.
"During the 20th ASEAN Summit, they were invited by Myanmar's Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin to visit Nay Pyi Daw and Yangon sometime in June before the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in July in Phnom Penh," Surin Pitsuwan told reporters.
He said during the visit, the foreign ministers of the 10- member ASEAN would talk about Timor-Leste application for ASEAN membership, and how ASEAN can help revive the long-stalled six- party nuclear talks involving South Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), China, Russia, the United States and Japan, which are all members of ASEAN Regional Forum.
Surin said Cambodian foreign minister Hor Namhong will visit the DPRK sometime before the ASEAN Regional Forum in July in Phnom Penh.
"Cambodia, 2012 ASEAN chair, has a very unique special relationship with Pyongyang through Cambodia's former King Norodom Sihanouk, the country and ASEAN will try to bring the DPRK into the six-party talks," he said.
The six-party talks on the DPRK's nuclear weapon program were halted in April 2009 when the DPRK withdrew from the talks in reaction to the international condemnation of its long range missile test.
ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
